The coastguard package will add $5-10 million to the CL-415's S23 million base price. The aircraft will still be able to perform its basic firefighting mission, however, with slightly reduced payload. Italy was die last customer to be announced, ordering two additional aircraft late last year to take its total to 15. . Production: Final assembly has been moved from Canadair's plant in Montreal, Quebec, to North Bay, Ontario. Production runs at about 10 aircraft a year. CRJ100/200 BOMBARDIER FIRST FLEW its 50-seat Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ), a derivative of the Challenger business jet, in May 1991, and' the pioneering aircraft began airline opera tions in November 1992. The initial GE CF34-3A-powered CRJ 100 has been joined by longer-range versions, the CRJ 100ER and 100LR. The latest model, the Series 200, is equipped with improved CF34-3B1 engines and is available in ER and LR versions. Corporate-configured models are also offered, including the Special Edition (SE) and Corporate JetLiner. Production: The final-assembly line, located at the Canadair plant in Montreal, Quebec, handed over 82 CRJs in 1999. Bombardier is increasing production from 7.5 to 9.5 aircraft a month during the course of 2000. Initial deliveries and service entry are sched uled for the first quarter of 2001. Flight testing will total, around l,500h, and involve five test aircraft. The CRJ700 will be certificated in two versions - the basic model and a growth-weight variant. A pair of fuselage plugs increase the aircraft's length by 4.72m compared with the CR3100/200. Wing root plugs increase the wing span by 1.83m, and wing area has been increased further by introducing leading edge extensions. The new model also features leading-edge slats to improve high-lift performance. Other changes from the basic CRJ include introduction of more powerful GE CF34-8C1 engines, in re-designed nacelles. The main landing gear, wheels and brakes have been upgraded for the higher operating weights. Ordered: 162 Delivered: 0 CRJ900 THE SECOND CRJ stretch, the CRJ900, was formally launched at this year's Famborough air show in July. The 86-seater incorporates an additional pair of fuselage plugs relative to the CRJ700 - 2.29m forward of the wing and 1.57m aft, increasing overall length to 36.2m. The prototype CRJ900, due to fly in the first quarter of 2001, will be a converted CRJ700 test aircraft. Production CRJ900S will incor porate strengthened wing, an additional pair of overwing exits and uprated GE CF34-8C5 engines, relative to the CRJ700. Certification of the Series 900 is targeted for the third quarter of 2002, to be followed by first deliveries in early-2003. Commitments for 62 of the new model have been received from Brit* Air, GE Capital Aviation Services, Tyrolean Airways and Air Nostrum.
