Gaining the acceptance and adoption of ERA's views by relevant authorities, decision-makers and the media is essential to protect airline profitability. ERA now wants to appoint a Director of Corporate Communications to initiate, develop and implement ERA's communications strategy. The post-holder must have a good general understanding of air transport or be capable of developing rapidly the general knowledge that would enable him/her to explain and promote ERA's policies and activities with confidence and understanding. The ideal candidate will probably have acquired this experience as a senior executive in the commercial and/or marketing department of a civil air transport company (ideally an airline). He/she must be a creative clear thinker with exceptional communication (written and spoken English) andjnterpersonal skills that would ensure proper communication internally within ERA's membership and externally to the media, international regulatory and other organisations. He/she must be computer-literate and energetic. DIRECTOR TECHNICAL SERVICES (new position) Ensuring that new technical regulations and operating requirements are practicable, appropriate and affordable is vital if the profitability of intra-European services is to be maintained. To spearhead this effort, ERA seeks a Director of Technical Services who will lead and develop the Association's activities and policies in respect of issues affecting aircraft and ground operations, maintenance, purchasing, safety and technical aspects of infrastructure. He/she will represent ERA's views at a senior level to relevant European and other national and international organisations to secure, to the greatest degree possible, favourable operational and economic conditions for ERA's members. The successful applicant will have experience as a senior and qualified executive in an airline's operations and/or maintenance department and a correspondingly high level of related technical knowledge. The post-holder must have the ability to identify and focus on key issues with leadership and communication (written and spoken English) skills that enable him/her to guide and develop policy. He/she must be computer-literate and energetic. MANAGER AIR SAFETY ERA places the maintenance and enhancement of air-safety as one of its principal responsibilities. Bringing air safety professionals together to share their knowledge and experience on safety matters is a highly effective way of helping to meet this goal. ERA seeks a manager with suitable experience to facilitate this process and to head its safety activities. The successful applicant will be knowledgeable in civil aircraft operating procedures and systems and able to demonstrate a consistent interest in air safety matters. Sound judgement and experience in a variety of aircraft types as well as regional operations would be an advantage. •<! The appointee will be adaptable to working in a multi-national environment. The post demands an analytical mind, self- motivation and a high energy level. High standards of personal conduct, enthusiasm, literacy and public speaking skills are essential, together with computer literacy. CONTROLLER INDUSTRY ANALYSIS Analysis of the regional sector's financial, traffic and punctuality performance is a vital aspect of ERA's work. It enables measurement of industry performance, as well as assessment of the value and scope of this sector of aviation. It allows evaluation of new regulatory requirements originating from such bodies as the European Commission and the Joint Aviation Authorities. The job-holder's work is instrumental in helping to determine the industry's action and policies. The position demands demonstration of a high level of numeracy, computer skills especially in spread-sheets and multi-dimensional databases, as well as diplomacy and boundless energy. After an appropriate period of familiarisation training, the appointee will be encouraged to work with minimal supervision and to expand the position. \ How to apply Candidates -should submit an application in writing together with a curriculum vitae to Daphne J Donnelly, Director Business Development, ERA, The Baker Suite, Fairoaks Airport, Chobham, WOKING, Surrey GU24 8HX, UK.
