"We have to be smart about growth. And that means being smart about training." Philip H. Trenary, President and CEO Express Airlines I / Northwest Airlink. Trenary's love of flying began as a boy, when a pilot landed a plane on the family farm. His early fascination with aviation later led him to a degree in Aeronautical Engineering Technology from Oklahoma State University, followed by periods as a flight instructor and corporate pilot. In 1982, Trenary started his own airline, Lone Star, which he ran successfully for 14 years before selling in 1996. Trenary then joined the Memphis-based Express as President and CEO in 1997, successfully shaping it into an operation well-respected in the industry. In 2000, he was named Regional Airline Executive of the Year. AS PRESIDENT AND CEO OF EXPRESS AIRLINES I, Phil Trenary knows his regional airline's ability to grow depends, in part, on its ability to fulfill its training needs. That's why he turns to ElightSafety, the leader in aviation training services. "Our goal is to manage growth while maintaining the high standards of safety and service that made Exprejg. so successful," says Trenary. "A strong relationship with FlightSafety is crucial to our strategy. It allows us, to share the resources and expertise of an innovative company." In a robust regional market, Express - which operates as I^Qrthwest Airlink - has achieved rapid growth and an increased market share. Concurrently, its fleet is in transition as dozens of new Canadair Regional Jets join the original fleet of Saab 340s. To effect its dramatic growth and change, Express turns to FlightSafety, which provides the necessary training facilities and simulators, as well as the latest courseware, trainers, and software for the airline's own Education Center. "We're determined to grow, but not at the expense of quality," says Trenary. "Training with FlightSafety makes that possible."
