History Founded by the Cechoslovak Government (as CSA Ceskoslovenske Statni Aerolinie). It provided only domestic services until it launched its first international route from Prague to Bratislava and Zagreb in 1930. After the German occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1939, the development of the airline was terminated, but by 1946, CSA had restarted some of its routes. After the Communists seized power in 1948, much of the fleet was replaced with Soviet equipment. In 1957, CSA became one of the world's first airlines to fly turbojet services, taking delivery of the first Tupolev Tu-104A. Transatlantic services were inaugurated on 3 February 1962, with a flight to Havana. After the break-up of the Czechoslovak Federation, the airline adopted the present name in May 1995. Cubana operates over 200 flights per week. History Founded as Compania Cubana de Aviacion Curtiss SA, the airline was taken over in 1932 by Pan American Airways, which changed the name to Compania Nacional Cubana de Aviacion. In 1944, the company underwent a further change of name to Compania Cubana de Avacion SA. In 1945, a majority share in the airline was sold to Cuban investors, Pan American retaining a 42% stake. The first international flight commenced in 1946 to Miami, followed in June 1948 by a transatlantic service from Havana to Madrid. The airline was nationalised in 1959.
