"When I say Pfizer is sold on FlightSafety training, I know I speak for the whole team." - Richard R. Matthews, Director of Aviation, Pfizer, Inc. WHEN PFIZER AVIATION DIRECTOR Richard Matthews talks about the many benefits of training with FlightSafety, he's speaking not only for himself, but for his entire aviation team, including, among others, his chief pilots, schedulers, and maintenance supervisors. "We consider FlightSafety the standard with regard to quality of equipment and instructors," says Matthews, "and their philosophy toward safety matches our own." Matthews also appreciates FlightSafety's active efforts to provide training tailored specifically to Pfizer's needs. "We've been with FlightSafety since 1987, and they work with us to define and implement a customized program. The instructors are intimately familiar with the aircraft we fly, and they have expertise in the Northeast corridor, where we operate. We find all that very appealing." An instrument- and commercial-rated pilot, Matthews (far right in photo) had his first aviation experience when his father took him flying in a Piper Cub. Then, from 1965 to 1970, Matthews logged around 3000 hours flying air-ovac with the USAF's 12th Air Medical Air Lift Squadron and served as a C-131 instructor examiner and simulator instructor. During his tenure as Aviation Director for New York-based Pfizer, Inc., Matthews has presided over the integration of Warner-Lambert's aviation department with Pfizer's. He now supervises a flight operation that includes about 50 employees and an expanding mixed fleet of GIV and GV business jets and S-76 helicopters. And on the subject of frequency, Matthews never needs to persuade his team of the value of regular training. "We have very high standards for our people, so we train as often as possible, usually every six months. Everyone here knows that the more often we can train with FlightSafety, the better we are." www.flightsafety.ccwn FlightSafety international Operating the World's Largest Fleet of Level "D" Simulators.
