The aircraft line-up includes piston-powered Baron and Bonanza, King Air twin turboprops, Beechjet 400A light jet, mid-size Hawker 800XP, super mid-size Hawker Horizon and the entry-level Premier I. Development of the light mid-size Hawker 450 was recently put on hold while Raytheon concentrates on its much delayed Horizon. The aircraft is due for certification at the end of next year with deliveries set to begin in early 2004, three years later than planned, Four of the Pratt & Whitney Canada PW308-powered air craft will be used in the flight-test pro gramme. The second aircraft is being prepared for a first flight this month; the third is in final assembly and the wing for the fourth has been delivered by risk- sharing partner Fuji Heavy Industries. Raytheon also offers the entry level Premier 1, which entered service last year after a two-year delay. The company has begun implementing lean manufacturing on the Premier assembly line to reduce costs and cycle time. Fifty aircraft are slated for delivery this year, up from 18 in 2001, and will increase the rate to 60 aircraft annually in the fourth quarter. It has received offers after the company launched a drive to convert the status of customer deposits from refundable to non refundable to boost its financing efforts. The company says deposits on 438 out of 896 assigned delivery positions had been con verted to non-refundable status by late January. Two offers for financing in excess of $100 million followed, one of which is still on the table, the company adds. First flight of the S-26 twinjet is due in June next year. US certification is expected in 2004. 70 Sky Place Boulevard, San Antonio, Texas 78216, USA Tel +1 (210) 258 3900; Fax +1 (210) 258 3973 Web http://www.sj30jet.com After 10 years in development, Sino Swear- ingen has begun building the first cus tomer SJ30-2 business jet, aircraft 005, at the company's Martinsburg, West Vir ginia, factory. The completed aircraft is due for delivery in the third quarter of next year, nine months after the Williams-pow ered jet is expected to receive type certifica tion. Assembly of wings and fuselages in Martinsburg represents a change from Sino Swearingen's original production plan. The company had planned to have wing and fuselage assemblies built by Gamesa of Spain, but that contract was cancelled last year because Sino Swearingen was dissatis fied with Gamesa's quality and schedule. Sino Swearingen has since obtained the tooling from Gamesa and do the work in-house. Contract cancellation, resulting in law suits between the two companies, has added around 18 months to the SJ30-2 development programme, says Sino Swear ingen. Meanwhile, type certification for the SJ30-2 is expected by the year-end. More than 150 SJ30-2s are on order, representing production well into the year 2005. VISIONAIRE 595 Bell Avenue, Chesterfield, Missouri 63005- 3602, USA Tel +1 (314) 530 1007; Fax +1 (314) 530 0005 Web http://www.visionaire.com Last year, VisionAire signed a contract with Israel Aircraft Industries to conduct a nine- month technical assessment of the single- engine Vantage VA-10 business jet. According to VisionAire, the continuing assessment has so far confirmed that the redesigned VA-10 (with some minor modi fications) will meet all expected perfor mance figures. Although much detailed design work still needs to be completed, the company says this third-party endorsement of the Vantage project has provided the informa tion the company's investment bank needs to seek the additional $100-plus million to finance the programme through to eventual certification. VisionAire will be concentrating on forming a strategic alliance with an investor, which would acquire a 10-20%) minority interest in the overall company. • 60 21-27 MAY 2002 FLIGHT INTERNATIONAL www.flightinternational.com
