ATR is also marketing the freighter ATRs to Asian cargo carriers, mooting the possibility of local conver sion work. Other programme successes include the probable selection by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) of the ATR 42 to replace its Fokker F27s. PIA requires five to eight aircraft, with a decision expected by year- end. Production The manufacture of fuselage and wings are sub contracted to Alenia and EADS respectively, while the final assembly line, engineering and procure ment take place at ATR Integrated's Toulouse plant. ATR delivered 19 aircraft in 2002, and hopes to continue delivering about 20 aircraft each year to maintain profitability. Xian Aircraft has an agreement to produce ATR 72 rear fuselages in China. ATR and Hindustan Aeronautics have discussed Indian production of the two models for several years, but have not reached final agreement. The purchase included the rights to the abandoned 428JET programme. 328 The 33-seat twin turboprop Dornier 328-100 first flew in 1991, and first deliveries were to Air Engiadina in 1993. All were upgraded to -110 stan dard after 1993. The P&WC PW119C-powered -120 and -130 received further enhancements. Support responsibility for the type is now with new 328 line owner Avcraft. Ordered: 106 Delivered: 106 328JET The jet-powered derivative of the 328 turboprop was launched in 1996 and deliveries began to Skyway Airlines in 1999. An Envoy 3 business jet version was also offered to government and VIP clients. It delivered the first of these white tails, an Envoy corporate variant, to Aero-Dienst for completion in April. Aero Dienst is to take three of the white tails, and Chinese carrier Hainan Airlines became the first recipientof an air line version from Avcraft in September, having reduced its previously held order for 21 aircraft to eight. AvCraft hopes to resurrect letters of intent signed before Fairchild Dornier went bankrupt, and hopes to restart production at the rate of 15 a year, eventually rising to 40 a year. Production Final assembly for the 328JET is at Oberpfaffenhofen in Germany. The wing is made in San Antonio, Texas, by Dornier Aviation North America. Avcraft is negotiating the transfer of wing production to Oberpfaffenhofen. Avcraft wants to restart production by the end of the year.
