The twin-engined aircraft had its first flight in 2000 but was then grounded and redesigned with sepa rate cockpit access doors, a fuselage 1.5m longer and 0.25m wider, an increased 15.4m wingspan and an increased maximum take-off weight of 3,100kg. Flight testing of the Teledyne Continental IO-550- N8-powered aircraft resumed in 2002. Over 70 of the Chinese Dongan WJ5A-1-powered twin-turboprops are believed to have been delivered to Chinese air lines. The Y-7 features a wider fuselage and larger wing than the An-24. Several versions have been developed, chiefly the modernised winglet-equipped Y-7-100, devel oped with Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering; the five-crew -100C version; the 0.74m-stretched - 200B, with more powerful WJ5E engines, improved aerodynamics and optional Rockwell Collins EFIS cockpit; the Westernised P&WC PW127-powered Length(m) Wingspan (m) Height (m) Wing area (m*) Max take-off weight (kg) Max landing weight (kg) Operating empty weight (kg) Max payload (kg) Tu-324 25.5 23.2 7.1 - 23,700 - - 5,500 Powerplant 2 x 8,532lb Ivchenko Progress AI-22 or 9,220lb GE CF34-3B1 Standard fuel capacity (I) Max cruise speed (kt or Mach) Max operating altitude (ft) Accommodation (typical) Design range with pax Note: *also called Tu-354 7,500 448 36,500 52 2,500km/52 Tu-334-100 31.26 29.77 9.14 83.23 47,900 43,500 - 12,000 2 x 16,8651b Ivchenko Progress D-436T1 11,925 442 36,420 102 3,150km/102 Tu-334-200* 35.16 32.61 9.14 100 55,470 - - 15,000 2 x 18,0781b Ivchenko Progress D-436T2 - - - 126 2,200km/126 -200A with a redesigned nose; and the Y-7H-500 cargo version with a rear cargo door that retracts under the fuselage. The 56- to 60-seat MA60 is the latest version of the Y-7-200A, powered by PW127J and fitted with four-bladed Hamilton Sundstrand propellers, a Honeywell APU, Rockwell Collins avionics and a new cabin. It first flew in 2000. In March Xian launched an avionics upgrade for the MA60, selecting the Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 integrated system. Certification is planned for 2004. Six MA60s are in service with Chinese airlines, as well as an unspecified number with the Chinese mili tary. Sichuan Airlines has ordered five MA60s and operates one, while Changan Airlines operates two and Wuhan Airlines operates three. XAC says China Northern Airlines plans to acquire five of the type. Xian sees demand for at least 100 $11 million MA60s within China, and hopes to sell over 200 air craft worldwide. Certification has not been obtained outside of China however. Xian, meanwhile, continues design work for a smaller 40-seat MA60 derivative. Primarily intended for use at high-altitude airports, it will not be launched without firm orders.
