Within the Safety Regulation Group, we are currently looking to recruit a Flight Standards Officer to join the General Aviation Department. The post is primarily office based, within the General Aviation operations team, whose responsibilities cover the whole range of General Aviation activity including, air displays, the operation of ex-military aircraft and hot air ballooning. You will be responsible for advising on the validity of all annual permissions, exemptions and approvals issued by the Department together with their preparation. You will also be responsible for the investigation of all General Aviation Mandatory Occurrence Reports, and the provision of safety advice to pilots. Additionally, you will be required to undertake some audits of General Aviation operations, ranging from the operation of ex-military aircraft to small flying displays. You will have considerable experience in civil or military aviation and hold a Private Pilots Licence as a minimum, together with a sound knowledge of General Aviation and its regulation. An enquiring and analytical mind is essential, as is the ability to write clearly and concisely. Equally you must be fully IT literate, preferably with the knowledge to manage databases. You will be flexible in your approach, self-motivating, and have a proven ability to work to tight deadlines. Employed within a multi-disciplined team environment, you will be expected to act on your own initiative and respond quickly to enquiries often on subjects outside your specialisation.
