IFALPA Chertsey, UK Executive Director Founded in 1948, the International Federation of Air Line Pilots' Associations (IFALPA) is a non-political and non-profit making organization which currently represents over 100,000 pilots and over 90 member associations around the world. The Federation is headquartered in Chertsey in the United Kingdom and currently has two regional offices in Montreal and Mexico City. As an international organization, IFALPA's principal task is to deal with matters which affect international civil aviation. The mission of IFALPA is to be the global voice of airline pilots, promoting the highest level of aviation safety worldwide and providing services, support and representation to all of its Member Associations. THE ROLE • Reporting to the IFALPA President and Principal Officers, the Executive Director acts as the Secretary General of the Federation providing leadership, strategic direction and day to day management. In conjunction with the President, liaises with external bodies and the media. • Maintains active liaison between the Secretariat and the Principal Officers of the Federation, member associations, regional groups, committees and external organizations such as ICAO, IATA, CAAs, etc. • Supervises and manages the Technical and Professional Affairs Department, directs the development and preparation of short- range and long-range plans based upon the goals and objectives of the Federation. THE QUALIFICATIONS • At least five years of executive managerial experience, preferably dealing with technical aspects of aviation safety within commercial aviation; respected throughout the aviation industry; with extensive experience in working at a senior level. • Service-minded person and credible leader with integrity and a strong sense of personal honour and business ethics; politically astute yet apolitical, able to solve problems and achieve results in a highly political environment. • Truly international approach, with the sensitivity to know how to deal with different governing bodies, nationalities and cultures. Excellent English language skills, second language desirable, education background in aviation or aviation safety related subjects preferred, and willingness to travel. Degree-calibre, and with a professional qualification in an area of civil aviation, you'll already have extensive experience of senior management, preferably in civil air traffic services environment. You'll also be able to demonstrate sound judgement and leadership and have a comprehensive understanding of safety management and risk assessment techniques, technical and operational issues, business planning, staff training and development.
