History Founded by Tom Christopher as Kitty Hawk Airways, a traditional Part 135 passenger and cargo charter company and aircraft operator The airline merged with the companies of Christopher Charters in 1985 to produce the Kitty Hawk Group, with a further merger bringing in the Kalitta companies in 1997. During 1998, Kitty Hawk reorganised its operating units to incor porate Kalitta Flying Service and Connie Kalitta Enterprises into the logistics arm, Kitty Hawk Charters. Subsidary American International Airways continued to operate from its base at Ypsilanti under the name Kitty Hawk International. History Founded by Albert Plesman and began operations between Amsterdam and London. It is the oldest airline in the world still operating under its original name. Once the airline's European network was established, intercontinental operations started to the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) in October 1924 with a trial flight. In 1929 KLM began the world's longest route to the Far East and services in the West Indies were introduced in 1935. Began establishing a global airline system through an alliance with Northwest Airlines in July 1989.
