Directory: business aircraft first deliveries of the stretched Citationjet in the third and fourth quarter, respec tively. The CJ3's Williams FJ44-3A power- plant has dual-channel full-authority digi tal engine control (FADEC) and the aircraft has a 0.53m-longer wing span, 0.3m-taller vertical tail and a 0.15m-longer tailcone. The CJ3 will be certificated for single-pilot operation under FAR 23 commuter-cate gory rules, allowing a common type rating with the smaller CJ1 and CJ2. Cessna's Citation Bravo light jet will remain in the product line because the manufacturer says it offers slightly more payload and range and two more seats. Cessna has received provisional US cer tification for the all-new Citation Sovereign, with full type certification of the mid-size business jet expected within weeks. The Sovereign is Cessna's biggest all-new design effort since the Citation X. When the programme was launched in October 1998, certification had been set for the second quarter of 2002, but the programme was put on hold to free engi neering resources for development of the CJ1, CJ2 and Encore - all launched at the same time. Flight testing has resulted in increases in performance, including a Mach 0.02 increase in maximum speed, to M0.8; an 8% increase in maximum range, to 5,620km; and a similar reduction in take-off distance, to 1,130m. The Sovereign is powered by 5,6901b- thrust Pratt & Whitney Canada PW306Cs and equipped with Honeywell Primus Epic avionics. Cessna clinched US certification in March for its XLS super-light business jet, fewer than six months after its launch. The aircraft replaces the Excel, providing a 90kg gross-weight increase, 415km range increase to 3,600km, and a faster, 25min, direct climb to 45,000ft, compared with the Excel. The Pratt & Whitney Canada The Cessna Citation XLS is an uprated Excel, which it replaces PW545B engines provide 4.9% more thrust. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in July. Cessna's Citation line-up also includes the Mach 0.92 Citation X at the top of its range, to which it has introduced improve ments from this year. The Citation X now offers new seats and LED lighting, while the Max-Viz EVS-2000 will be available as an option. The company also offers the Caravan 1 and Grand Caravan single- turboprop utility aircraft. 9 Rond-Point des Champs-Elysees, Marcel Dassault, Paris F75008, France Tel +33 (1) 53 76 93 00 Fax +33 (1) 53 76 93 20 Website www.dassault-aviation.fr Dassault offers the Falcon line of business jets, incorporating the super mid-size Falcon 50EX, large cabin 2000 and 2000EX, super-large 900C/EXs and Falcon 7X now under development. The long-range, high-speed 7X will fea ture the first fly-by-wire flight-control sys tem on a business jet, a highly swept wing with 10% higher lift-to-drag ratio com pared with that of the Falcon 900, which it will eventually replace, and a Mach 0.9 cruising speed. The cabin is stretched by 2.4m, bringing a 20% increase in internal volume over the 900. The cockpit will also feature the EASy advanced flightdeck under development by Dassault, with four large liquid-crystal displays, based on Honeywell's Primus Epic integrated avion ics. Dassault says it is between the end of design and the beginning of production of the first aircraft, scheduled for completion in October. First flight is scheduled for early 2005, leading to certification and first deliveries in 2006. The aircraft will be offered with the Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics HGS 4000 head-up guidance system as an option. The 7X is powered by 6,1001b-thrust Pratt & Whitney Canada PW307A engines. Orders of the $37 mil lion 7X total 40 aircraft. Dassault has not discounted returning to the mid-size sector once occupied by the Falcon 10. Ottostrasse 5, A-2700 Wiener Neustadt, Austria Tel +43 2622 26 700 Fax +43 2622 26 780 Website www.diamondair.com Austrian light aircraft manufacturer Diamond has entered the very light jet race last year with the launch of its inter nally funded single-engined D-Jet, pow ered by the Williams International FJ33 turbofan. The five-seat, all-composite D-Jet is scheduled for first flight by the end of the year with European Joint Aviation Regulation 23 certification planned for December 2005 and deliveries in 2006. The aircraft will be priced at under $1 million. Diamond has clinched over 100 orders for the D-Jet and expects to have secured around 500 orders by the time of certification from operators of single- engined turboprops and piston twins. Production is set at 100 aircraft for 2006, ramping up to 200 aircraft a year there after. The D-Jet is projected to have a cruise speed of 315kt at its maximum altitude of 25,000ft. The aircraft's maximum take off weight is just under 2,000kg to avoid Eurocontrol's en route navigation charges, which are levied on all aircraft above 2,000kg. Since its launch in January, the D-Jet's wingspan has been increased from 10.3m to 11.8m to ensure an approach speed of 61kt. The aircraft will also have a fully integrated glass cockpit, with Honeywell's Apex, Garmin's G1000 and Avidyne's Integra the contenders.. Research and development work will be undertaken at Diamond's Vienna facility, and manufacturing is likely to be shared between the company's two bases in Austria and London, Ontario in Canada. The six-seat C2 offers an increase in maximum take-off weight from 2,985kg to 3,355kg and is designed to deliver a maximum range of 1,565km at a cruise speed of 255kt. Both aircraft offer strengthened airframe components, wheels and tyres and addi tional new features such as a redesigned luggage compartment, a new interior with seats dynamically tested to more than 20g, a Honeywell environmental control sys- 70 18-24 MAY 2004 FLIGHT INTERNATIONAL www.fliqhtinternational.com
