CUTAWAY POSTERS Over the years many of Flight's cutaways have appeared in poster format for manufactures, marketing and sales purposes. With the increase in complexity and size of aircraft and aeroengines, coupled with an increase in detail demanded by our ever discerning customers, the decision to publish the cutaways in posters format rather than double-page spreads or gatefolds was made in the 1995. Almost 100 cutaway posters have been published to date and following tests with colour posters in the late 1990s the move to colour posters was made. Very soon all of flights posters will be available to view on this page. |

Flight Cutaway background information
Welcome Flight's online Cutaway collection.
We have been beavering away scanning and cleaning up many of the 1,100 original Flight International and The Aeroplane cutaway drawings held in our collection, which is no easy task as many of the drawings are over 5ft wide, 3ft deep and the total weight of the collection is measured in tons!
The current offering comprises of 800 additional Flight International Cutaways and Micro-cutaways on the site. With many more cutaways to come, this marks the beginning of several interesting and special projects planned for the Cutaway online collection and the lead up to Flight’s centenary celebrations.
Of particular interest in this upload are the inclusion of almost 40 agricultural aircraft, airships and hovercraft Cutaways. The Agricultural aircraft section shines some light on the highly specialised world of crop-dusting, including the post-war (1946) Auster Agricola through to the ultimate Piper Pawnee Brave PA-36.
The airships section also spans the ages with the 1936 Zeppelin LZ-129 “Hindenburg” through to the Airbus-Industries AD300 Airship of 1979.
Perhaps the strangest category of cutaways to be includes within the Flightglobal collection are those of the hovercraft. The “apparent” burgeoning hovercraft industry of the late 1950’s saw the launch of the “Air-Cushion Vehicles” title within Flight between 1962 and 1968. More than 30 hovercraft cutaways would be published within the magazine, ranging from one-man vehicles through to the 160 ton, 250-passenger cross-channel Westland SR-N4 high-speed hovercraft!
We are gradually moving the Cutaways over to our AirSpace photo galleries which is an important developmental step in allowing us to offer the Cutaways for purchase and download.
If you have any questions concerning the cutaways and their usage, please feel free to contact me.
