Allegiant Air expects to start its first international flights to Mexico around a year from now, later than what it previously indicated.
"We expect to do that next year, around this time," says the airline's president Andrew Levy, speaking at the Raymond James Global Airline Conference in New York today.
Allegiant had previously indicated it could launch flights in mid-2014, but Levy says today the flights will begin around the winter peak period.
"We are very excited about the opportunities we see down there," says Levy, citing Cancun as an example of a large leisure destination the airline hopes to target.
Allegiant has already applied to launch flights between Las Vegas and Hermosillo and San Jose del Cabo.
