ANALYSIS: lacobucci HF insists good coffee makes a difference

The lack of a "good espresso" on a long-haul business class flight 25 years ago launched Lucio Iacobucci on a mission to improve the quality of coffee at 35,000ft. The son of renowned in-flight trolley designer Emilio – who had started the self-named family firm near Rome in 1972 – the younger Iacobucci came up with what he claims was the industry's first maker of the signature Italian short coffee. The Hi-Fly Espresso won its first customer, Singapore Airlines, in 1995.
