Demand for aircraft seats prompts Recaro to increase production

Recaro Aircraft Seating plans to increase production capacity at its fast-growing plants in Poland and the USA to meet strong demand for seats.

"We set a new record in November with more than 10,000 seats manufactured at our production sites in Schwaebisch Hall, Germany; Swiebodzin, Poland; and Fort Worth/Dallas in the USA. This places us in an excellent position based on an industry comparison," says company chief operations officer Mark Hiller.

Recaro's international manufacturing network expects to set a new record for the year with a total of 70,000 units. "The high production numbers are driven by the huge demand for Recaro economy class seats from international airlines," explains Hiller.

As such, Recaro plans to continue to grow its network. "We want to maintain the current production volume at our main plant in Schwaebisch Hall, where we launch our new seat programmes. We plan to gradually increase production capacity at our plants in Poland and the USA," says Hiller, adding that the firm has started a third production line at its factory in Swiebodzin.

Among Recaro's many customers Lufthansa recently ordered 32,000 slim seats from the manufacturer to install on hundreds of Airbus and Boeing narrowbodies. With this purchase, the German airline's total capacity will grow by more than 2,000 seats or about 8%, equivalent to 12 additional Airbus A320s.
