Engines for the first Emirates Airbus A380s to be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 900s have been sent to the type’s final assembly line in Toulouse.

The aircraft is set to be delivered to the Dubai-based carrier later this year.

Emirates had previously selected the rival Engine Alliance GP7200 for its first 90 A380s.

But Rolls-Royce last year secured a crucial agreement with the airline – the largest A380 customer – to supply the Trent 900 for 50 follow-on aircraft.

Trents will also power another pair of A380s for which Emirates signed in March this year.

Rolls-Royce says it has sent the first four engines to Toulouse. The manufacturer has gained more than half the market share on the A380 as a result of the Emirates deal.
