FLEET WATCH: Orders June 2011

Airliner net orders came in at 845 for June as 899 new orders were offset by 54 cancellations, with another two swaps. The high figures for the month are directly associated to the Paris Air Show where strong transaction activities traditionally occur.

It was an exceptional month for Airbus and its new A320neo with AirAsia ordering 200 and IndiGo 150. Indian Carrier Indigo ordered an additional 30 A320s during the month. GoAir, GECAS, SAS and LAN Airlines also ordered the A320neo with 72, 63, 30 and 20 respectively. China’s CASGC and ICBC Financial Leasing ordered 46 and 42 A320s respectively. The major cancellations of the month came from DAE Capital who cancelled 11 A350s and 34 A320s. The CIT Group also swapped two A350s for two A330s.

Airbus totalled an impressive figure of 702 new orders in June while Boeing received 38 and 33 orders were placed for Bombardier’s CSeries. In the regional market, ATR totalled 62 orders, Embraer 34 and Sukhoi 24.

In the narrowbody market, a total of 535 A320neo aircraft firm orders took place during the month as well as 126 A320s and seven A321s. A total of 33 CSeries and 17 Boeing 737 orders were also placed. The orders for for widebody aircraft were for 26 A330s, 17 747s, six A350s, three 787s, two A380s and a single 767. In the regional market, the orders of the month were for 34 Embraer 190s, 24 Sukhoi Superjet 100s and two Comac ARJ21s. The turboprop aircraft orders of the month were for 59 ATR72s, four DHC-6 Twin Otters and three ATR42s.

Overall, the order backlog for airliners ended June at 8,611, up 758 on the previous month.
