Embraer has selected Honeywell engines and Rockwell Collins avionics for its new Midsize (MSJ) and Midlight (MLJ) business jets, slated for entry into service in the second quarter of 2012 and 2013, respectively.
Honeywell, in its first role as an engine provider for Embraer, will provide its HTF7500E engine, a derivative of the HTS7000 for both aircraft. The contract is valued at $23 billion over the life of the program, according to Honeywell.
The engines will provide between 6,000-7,000lb-thrust each while generating 40% less nitrous oxides (NOx) than existing engines of the same thrust class.
Rockwell Collins is to deliver the Pro Line Fusion avionics suite, with enhanced vision as standard equipment, as well as auto-throttles and paper-less cockpit. Optional equipment will include a head-up display and enhanced vision system.
Embraer received approval for the two jets, which will be its first fully fly-by-wire, side-stick controlled business jets, by the company's board of directors on 28 March.
The company plans to spend about $750 million on the development program and is seeking risk-sharing partners.
