Israeli, Greek air forces to stage more joint exercises

The Israeli air force will continue to perform joint exercises with its Greek counterpart and manouevres will be held in both countries.

Last November, five Greek air force Lockheed Martin F-16 Block 52s landed at Uvda air base in southern Israel before taking part in a five-day exercise. Including practice air combat and ground attacks, the activity also involved Israeli F-16 and Boeing F-15 fighters, and Boeing 707 tankers.

The bilateral exercise, and one that was performed earlier with the Italian air force, was intended to allow the Israeli air force to train with counterparts that have different approaches to missions. Overseas deployments will also enable Israeli pilots to fly longer distances.

Strengthened relations with Athens come as diplomatic links between Israel and Turkey have reached a low point.
