Jazeera to open London when winter season begins

Kuwaiti budget carrier Jazeera Airways has confirmed plans to open a London service at the beginning of the winter season.

The airline's reservations system shows that flights to London Gatwick will commence on 27 October. It will operate daily on the route.

Jazeera had previously indicated earlier this year its intention to begin services to the UK capital with Airbus A320neo jets.

It firmed its London plan as it unveiled a strong improvement in first-half financial performance.

Jazeera generated a 37% rise in revenues to KD47.3 million ($155 million) over the six months to 30 June.

The airline kept the increase in expenditure to around 21%. Fuel costs reached KD10 million from the previous KD8.7 million.

Operating profit for the first half more than doubled to KD10.3 million while net profit was up four-fold to KD6.2 million.

Jazeera has been expanding strongly into India but has also recently reinforced its presence in Turkey with services to Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen airport as well as Bodrum.

It operates to 27 destinations and its network plans include opening routes to Karachi, Dhaka and Kathmandu.
