Kuwait Airways board resigns

The state’s official news agency, KUNA, cites a senior government minister as saying that the Kuwait Airways chairman and the members of the board submitted their resignations on 9 September.

He adds that the resignation will be discussed by the Kuwaiti cabinet on 10 September.

While no reason has been given for the board’s decision, Kuwait Airways suffered a setback to its development plans at the end of August when regulatory hurdles forced it to scrap plans to acquire 19 aircraft from Kuwait’s Aviation Lease and Finance Company.

Kuwait Airways has previously expressed frustration with the government over the lack of flexibility afforded by the carrier’s state-owned status, and has called for it to take steps to privatise the airline.
