Fiji Airways has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737 Max 8, an aircraft that joins Fiji's fleet of 737-700s and 737-800s.

The Nadi-based carrier has orders for another four 737 Max 8s, with deliveries scheduled to run through November 2019, according to Flight Fleets Analyzer. Fiji's 737 Max 8s will have 180 seats.

The carrier has named the first aircraft, which has registration DQ-FAB, "Island of Kadavu".

Boeing says 737 Max 8s have range of 3,550nm (6570nm), which is 600nm farther that previous 737 derivatives. The aircraft, powered by CFM International Leap-1B turbofans, also burns 14% less fuel, Boeing says.

Fiji Airways hired Boeing to provide aircraft health management services through Boeing Global Services.

The airline also operates one 737-700, four 737-800, five Airbus A330-200s and one A330-300, Fleets Analyzer shows.
