Regulator raps SAS

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is confident that a new engineering monitoring system will prevent further occurrences of a maintenance oversight that resulted in the airline being sternly rapped for operating several long-haul aircraft that had exceeded limits on flying hours, writes David Kaminski-Morrow.

Civil aviation authorities from Denmark, Norway and Sweden are meeting next week to determine whether the carrier’s subsequent corrective actions are adequate, after the airline admitted to regulators late last year that it had missed deadlines for certain routine checks.

These checks covered engines, for airworthiness purposes, on seven Airbus A340s and three Airbus A330s.
