Romania has cancelled its selection of Aeronautics Defense Systems' Orbiter 4 unmanned air system, after a court accepted the findings of a special committee established to investigate the deal.
As previously reported by FlightGlobal, the selection had faced scrutiny following appeals mounted by two other Israeli companies that had been competing to equip the Romanian army. BlueBird Aero Systems had promoted its ThunderB, while Israel Aerospace Industries offered the BirdEye 650D.
BlueBird and IAI challenged the Orbiter 4 selection decision, claiming that their respective systems were better suited to meet the army's requirements as outlined in an official tender.
Israeli sources indicate that Romania is expected to launch a new competition soon.
