Syria regains air link to Russia after six-year gap

Scheduled air services have been restored between Syria and Russia after a six-year hiatus.

On 4 July, Syria's Cham Wings Airlines conducted a flight from Damascus International to Moscow Vnukovo airport.

Vnukovo's operator says Cham Wings will offer a weekly Airbus A320 service on the route.

Direct passenger flights between the two countries were suspended in August 2012 when Russian flag carrier Aeroflot stopped serving Syrian capital Damascus after the escalation of political conflict in the Middle Eastern nation into a civil war.
