Aeroflot, the Soviet international and domesticairline, was originally formed in 1923 as Dobrolet and adopted the name of Aeroflotafter reorganization in 1932. Among its many activities are agricultural, survey andambulance flying, airport operation and pro- vision of navigation facilities. Operations in theArctic regions are carried out by a special division known as Avia-Artika. Aeroflot isresponsible for all civil aviation operations and development, other than the development ofaircraft. The airline now operates an extensive route network both within Russia and extern-ally. Points served include London. The airline maintains a domestic network and international Cometservices to neighbouring South American countries, to Trinidad and New York, and toLondon, Paris, Frankfurt, Rome and Madrid. HS.748 services began on February 15, 1962,on the Buenos Aires-Punta del Este route, and 748s have taken over many domestic routes inNorthern Argentina. Caravelles began opera- ting between Buenos Aires and Santiago onApril 1, 1962, and have since gone into service on several other routes. Subject to Govern-ment approval, Aerolineas is expected to place an order for four long-haul jets to replace theComets on trunk routes to North America and Europe. Also operates internal services in theArgentine. Aero Contractors are currently operating three Otters owned by theBoard of Customs and Excise on anti-smuggl- ing operations as well as two Aztecs forcommunications and security flights for the Nigerian Government. Aerolineas Argentinas was founded as a Statecorporation in May 1949 by the Ministry of Transport to take over the operations ofFAMA, ALFA, Aeroposta and ZONDA. Hughes, president. Fleet: C-46. Aerolineas El Salvador SA operates twice-weekly cargo and mail flights between San Salvador and Miami.
