FLIGHT International, 10 April 1969 Fleet: One Beech 99, one Beech DI8. one Cessna 402, two Cessna 310. Lear JeTravel was formed in October 1968 as a subsidiary of William P. Lear Enter prises Inc. A scheduled service linking Reno-Stead Airport with Burbank-Hollywood Airport has been operated twice daily since December 1968. Air Taxi and charter opera tions are also undertaken. Lebanese Air Transport (Charter) Co SAL started operating passenger and freight charters in June 1961. Lebanese International Airways (LIA) was formed in 1950 as a charter operator and flew regular Beirut-Kuwait services for a time. In 1953 the company was acquired by the Arida brothers each having a 40% holding. Scheduled passenger services con nected Beirut with Milan, Paris, Zurich. Brussels, Bombay, Kuwait, Baghdad, Bah rain, Doha, Dhahran and Teheran. LIA was reorganised late in 1968 and American Air lines took a major shareholding (30.56%) in the company. Other shareholders are Seatankers Inc (Ludwig) (30%) Banque Sabbag (24.67%), Arida Brothers (8.56%). Andre Tabourian (0.49%) and others (5.72%). A merger between the reorganised LIA and Middle East Airlines has been under negotiation for some time. The air line is now non-operational following the destruction of its fleet of two Convair CV-990As in the Israeli raid on Beirut Air port on December 28, 1968. Leeward Islands Air Transport Services Ltd (LIAT) was formed in 1956, as a subsidiary company of British West Indian Airways who now hold 75% of the shares. LIAT services operate to 21 points in the West Indies and include San Juan (Puerto Rico) and Trinidad. Head Office: Coolidge Airport, Antigua, West Indies. Lesotho Airways Ltd was formed in 1967 as the national carrier of Lesotho (formerly Basutoland) by the South African operator Commercial Airways (Pty) Ltd (formerly Commercial Air Services). It began operating on October 2 as a once-weekly service from Maseru, the capital, to Johannesburg under charter to the Lesotho Government using Commercial aircraft and crews. Head Office: Maseru. Lesotho. Fleet: One DC-3 part-leased from Com mercial Airways. Lethbridge Air Service operate a scheduled commuter service between Lethbridge and Red Deer (Alberta) together with charters. Liberian National Airlines Inc was originally formed in 1949 as Liberian National Airways by the Government of Liberia and operations began in 1952. The company was reorganised in January 1965 when the government invited the French independent airline UTA to take over the management of LNA, but this agreement was terminated in 1968. Services link Robertsfield and Monrovia with Buchanan, Cape Palmas. Sinoe and Freetown (Sierra Leone). Head Office: Robertsfield International Airport, Liberia. Executive: General manager, Capt F. H. Syphert. Fleet: Two DC-3. Libyan Aviation Company Ltd (LAVCO) was formed in 1962 from Air Jordan (Libya) to support petroleum exploration and production activities. Libyan National Airways SAL (Linair) was formed in 1962 by Libyan interests and Sabena to provide charter and oil-prospect ing support operations in Libya. In July 1965 Belgian International Air Services took over Sabena's interest and provides operational assistance. Commercial and operational office is 18 Sharia Ahmed Sherif, Tripoli. Lider Taxi Aereo SA operates extensive air taxi services in the Minas Gerais province of Brazil as well as to Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Brasilia. Lider was formed in 1958. Lina Congo (Lignes Nationales Aeriennes Congolaises) is the successor to the private enterprise Air Congo, which succeeded Com-pagnie Congalaise de Transportes Alliens, the national airline of the Republic of the Congo. Originally formed in June 1961, the name was changed in August 1965 to avoid confusion with the L^opoldville-based air line of the same name. Lina Congo is wholly owned by the Government, whose holding may eventually be reduced to 52%, and operates domestic services from Brazza ville, and also flies into Gabon. Fleet: One DC-4, two DC-3, one Cessna 310, one Cessna 180. 579 Lindeman Island Aerial Services Pty Ltd operates charter flights for tourists from Alice Springs to the holiday resort centre of Lindeman Island on the Great Barrier Reef, also from Mackay to Lindeman Island. Charter work is undertaken in Papua/New Guinea as well as in other parts of Australia. Head Office: Lindeman Island, Queens land, Australia. Executives: Managing director, L. Nichol son ; manager and chief pilot, F. Goossens. Fleet: Two Aztec. Linea Aerea Condor is a Chilean passenger and freight carrier which operates domestic and international non-scheduled services. Head Office: Aeropuerto Los Cerrillos, Santiago, Chile. Fleet: One C-46. Linea Aerea del Cobre Ltda (Ladeco) was founded in November 1958. Shareholding is divided between Juan Costabal (49%), Agustin E. Edwards (37%) and Alejandro Osso (14%). Ladeco operates northbound from Santiago to Potrerillos and El Sal vador, Antofagasta and Calama; south bound from Santiago to Puerto Montt, Balmaceda and Coyhaique. An international route to Salta (Argentina) is also operated and an air-taxi service is operated using Baron and Queen Air B80 aircraft. Head Office: Huerfanos 1363, Santiago. Chile. Linea Aerea de Publicidad Taxpa Ltda started operations in 1958 and now under take fish spotting, air taxi, crop spraying, air survey, aerial photography and general charter services. Scheduled domestic ser vices to Juan Fernandez island in the Pacific and other Doints are operated. Head Office: Nueva York 53, Of. 102, Santiago, Chile. Linea Aerea Rio Platense SRL operates scheduled domestic cargo services within Uruguay. No recent news of this operator is available. Head Office: Blandengues 1673, Mon tevideo, Uruguay. Fleet: C-46. Linea Aerea Snd Americana Ltda (LASA) is a Chilean freight carrier which operates domestic and international non-scheduled services, as well as regular cargo flights to Antofagasta, Iquique, Arica and Mendoza (Argentina). Linea Expressa Bolivar SA (LEBCA) ceased operations in April 1968 and the company's routes handed over to VIASA. Linea Aeropostal Venezolana (LAV) was founded in 1933 when the Venezuelan Government took over the routes and equipment of the Cie G&ierale Aeropostale which had begun operating in Venezuela in 1930.
