Emerged as leading small turbine company on strength of its PT6A turboprop (the 4,000th unit was delivered on Decem ber 18 last). UACL now powers some 75 per cent of all light twin-turboprops in the West, amounting to almost 1,500 air craft in 58 countries. Coupled turboshaft version of PT6, designated PT6T or military T400, now also in production for civil and military helicopters, giving total PT6 flying time of 4 million hours. Company recently awarded grants by Quebec government of up to $5 million, £2.09 million over next five years to assist in manufacture of JT15D turboshafts for export. Headquarters: Malton, Ontario. Public company owned 60 per cent by Hawker Siddeley Canada Ltd and 40 per cent by United Aircraft Corporation. Engaged in industrial and aircraft turbine manufacture. UNITED AIRCRAFT CORP Orenda is licence-manufacturing the General Electric J85 aug mented turbojet as the 4,3001b, 19.50kN J85-CAN-15 for Canadian-built Northrop CF-5 and NF-5 fighters. The company, whose operations are largely dependent on Canadian military requirements, also overhauls J79, J85 and Orenda turbojets and has sub-contract work for P&W and other US companies. Sole Czech aircraft turbine design, development and manu facturing concern, with M701 1,9621b, 8.9kN turbojet power ing Aero L-29 Delfin trainer as its major product. Close on 5,000 M 701s built with production scheduled through to next year. As successor to M701, company has started licensed manufacture of Ivchenko AI-25 3,3001b, 15kN turbofan for new Aero L-39 trainer, including progressive development of engine (also known as Walter Titan) to 3,9681b, 18kN. Motor- let-designed M 601A 540 e.h.p., 403kW turboprop being flight- tested in Ilyushin 11-14 for Let L-410 light transport. Produc tion M 601 to be rated at 740 e.h.p., 552kW. FRANCE MICROTURBO Microturbo SA. Headquarters: Toulouse, Haute Garonne. Public company owned by Ateliers SEMCA SA, aircraft acces sories group. Engaged in manufacture of aircraft gas-turbine starter systems, APUs and ultra-small propulsion turbines with annual sales of approximately Fr25 million, £1.9 million.
