934 FLIGHT International, 24 June 1971 WORLD'S AIR FORCES arrived for the fracas with Biafra remains in service, comprising three 11-28 bombers, 12 MiG-17 and MiG-15UTIs and eight L-29 Delfin armed trainers. In addition the air force retains its previous equipment of ten Piaggio P.149D armed trainers, three C-47 trans ports, approximately 20 Dornier Do27 and Do28 communications aircraft and about ten Alouette II and Whirlwind helicopters. Above, ten McDonnell Douglas A-4K Skyhawks are operated by the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Below, Norway flies five Lockheed P-3B Orions for maritime patrol work NIGER REPUBLIC Niger Air Force This purely transport force flies four Noratlas, provided by West Germany, a C-47 and several light aircraft provided by France. NORWAY Royal Norwegian Air Force The whole Norwegian air force is assigned to Nato and comprises four strike squad rons equipped with Northrop F-5s (56 F-5As and 24 F-5Bs), one with 16 RF-5As and one all-weather fighter squadron with 29 F-104G and TF-104G Starfighters. The maritime recce squadron has five Lockheed P-3B Orions and there are also eight HU-16 Albatross for short- range maritime recce. The transport squadron has six C-130Hs as first-line strength and there are ten C-47s and four Twin Otters for local transport. Helicopters include 32 UH-1B Iroquois and two Bell 47s, and there are four Nike-Ajax and Nike-Hercules SAM sites. The Norwegian Navy has ten Sea King helicopters. PAKISTAN Pakistan Air Force Some 270 combat aircraft equip the Pakistan Air Force at the present time, comprising three bomber squadrons, one with Il-28s and two with Martin B-57B Canberras (26 aircraft). Chinese-built MiG-19s equip five fighter/bomber squadrons and 90 Sabres, both F-86F and Canadair Sabre 6 versions, still equip seven squadrons although these are to be replaced by more than 38 Mirage Vs with re-equip ment scheduled to begin in 1972. In addition there is a tactical recce squad ron, with strike capability, equipped with 24 Mirage HIEPs and IIIRPs. There is also a pure air-defence squadron equipped with Lockheed F-I04As and Bs. Transport is provided by eight C-130B Hercules augmented by one civil Model 382 Hercules and eight C-47s. Lockheed RT-33As form a recce unit and T-33s are also used for training alongside T-6s, T-37s and Mirage IIIDs. The helicopter HHHH ">*""" < r-'iffeH-B
