The 1975 figures have yet to be finalised and an update will be issued when last year's data are complete. SECOND SEABOARD 747F ENTERS SERVICE SEABOARD WORLD AfRLINES doubled its Containership capacity on the North Atlantic this week with the intro duction of a second 747F into service on May 2. Delivered from Boeing's Seattle factory last Friday, the aircraft has JT9D-70S of 52,0001b thrust, compared with the 47,0001b- thrust JT9D-7s fitted to. Seaboard's first 747F, and can carry 35,0001b more freight than the earlier model. Maximum take-off weight is 820,0001b. | Seaboard plans to use its new Containership on New York-London-Brussels-Paris-Newr York, with DC-8s feeding the Frankfurt terminal by means of daily shuttles from Switzerland and Italy. The first 747F will be used exclusively on the New York-Frankfurt service. South Vietnamese airspace is re-opening. First airline to get overflight rights is Air France and others are expected to follow shortly. Air Hibiscus is the name of a new Fijian airline which intends to offer charter flights from Fiji to the Bahamas and Europe, tapping the Australian market, ft is reported that Air Hibiscus will lease Boeing 707s from Tempair International Airlines, but no contract has been signed. UTA this week starts a weekly DC-8-62 service from Paris to Bahrain and Muscat. Airliner market Air Ceylon is looking for new short/medium-range aircraft. The airline's Hawker Siddeley Trident is now up for sale • Alia tells Flight that it has ordered two Boeing 747s, but the deal has not yet been announced by the manufacturer • Allegheny Airlines tells Flight that it has in fact taken delivery of all its McDonnell Douglas DC-9-50s, contrary to the report in this column two weeks ago • Avianca of Colombia hopes to lease a wide-body long-haul aircraft, preferably a DC-10-30, and the airline's president has recently visited Iberia, Air France and Lufthansa to discuss terms • Eastern Airlines is to lease six Boeing 727-200s from the manufacturer, for delivery in the last quarter of this year. The lease period is two years • Frontier Airlines has bought two Boeing 737200s from United Airlines. They will be delivered in July and September. United has also sold two 737-200s to Taiwan. Frontier expects that two of its Convair 580s will be avail able for sale in September Q Bapag-Lloyd has acquired a ninth Boeing 727-100 from Japan Air Lines D National Airlines has at last sold its two Boeing 747s to Northwest Airlines. Delivery is expected shortly. The 747si have been on the market since the strike which started last September • Overseas National Airways will lease two McDonnell Douglas DC-8-63CFs from Seaboard World Airlines if Civil Aeronautics Board permission is obtained. Lease of the DC-8s will allow ONA to meet this year's commitments, while the carrier waits for delivery of its replacement DC-10-30s • Perlita, airline/executive subsidiary of the Indonesian Pertamina petroleum group, is being hived off. It is reported that Perlita will be absorbed by Indonesian flag carrier Garuda. In that case some of Perlita's aircraft may be sold by Garuda in the interests of standardisation. Perlita operates a Boeing 707 and a BAC One-Eleven, together with a mix of Fokker-VFW F.28s and F.27s and NAMC YS-lls • Somali Airlines has bought American Airlines' last two Boeing 720Bs D Trans-Australia Airlines is selling one Boeing 727-100 Q World Airways is the source of Yemen Airways' two leased Boeing 727-lOOCs. World will carry out flight training and maintenance. Alia Royal Jordanian Airlines will start scheduled passenger services from Amman to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore next month. The UK Civil Aviation Authority has published changes to British Civil Airworthiness Requirements Section A (price £2-50) and to TSS standards (subscription £12). "Airport" is the name of a new monthly tabloid newspaper to be distributed at key airports throughout the UK and covering aviation, airline and business news. The 2,000ft airstrip under construction at Flotta in the Orkney Islands is expected to be in use by June. Doubts about the wisdom of a single runway have been voiced by Loganair, which expects the crosswind to exceed the 30kt maximum of its Islanders on 12 days of the year.
