FLIGHT International, 2S September 1976 963 LIGHT Falcon 50 roll-out The prototype Dassault-Breguet Falcon 50 was rolled out at Bordeaux Merignac on September 4 (see picture above). Roll-out was on schedule and the first flight should take place during early November. Certifica tion and delivery of the first production aircraft should be achieved by late 1978. Certification flight-testing will be carried out by the prototype and first two production aircraft. The Falcon 50 is powered by three Garrett TFE 731-3 engines. Aerostar dealership for Mann Mann Aviation, of Fairoaks, Surrey, has been appointed United Kingdom dealer for the Ted Smith Aerostar. One model 601P has been reallocated from Metropolitan Aerostar, whose association with the range has been discontinued, and a new demonstration aircraft will be delivered to Fairoaks shortly. British type certification of the 601P has already been gained by the manufacturer, but the approval will be validated when Mann receives its first new aircraft. The appointment of Mann is the first of a series of dealerships expected to result from a prolonged European tour by Aerostar marketing vice-president Boyd Lydick, who tells Flight that he is confident of an upturn in European sales of cabin- class business twins. Improved Sabreliners planned Two improved versions of the Rockwell Sabreliner are scheduled to appear in 1978. Designated Model 65A and 80A, they will incorporate aero dynamic changes aimed at improving range, take-off and landing performance. The 65A will differ from the 80A in being powered by Garrett TFE 731-3 engines, and is expected to have transcontinental range. The aerodynamic modifications are being developed in co-operation with the Raisbeck Group, and will be available as retrofits. Rockwell is understood to have already flight- tested some Raisbeck modifications, including changes to the wing planform, leading and trailing-edge profiles, flaps and fuel system. Shortly to enter service with Austin Airways of Timmins, Ontario, this HS.748 has been bought from an African operator and is seen at /nnotech's Montreal Dorval plant after certificate-of-airworthiness inspection. The bubble-hooded Chipmunk in the foreground is owned by an Innotech employee COMMERCIAL & BUSINESS First European A.109 order Abelag, the Brussels-based Belgian dealer for Agusta, has ordered an A.109 Hirundo for delivery early in 1977. This is the first firm A.109 order to be placed in Europe. Production of the twin-turbine Hirundo is rising and the first American sales have been achieved by Atlantic Aviation. DLT leases Corvette Aerospatiale and West German domestic carrier DLT have agreed the long-term lease of a Corvette. The aircraft will be based at Frankfurt and used for executive work. Nomad sales GAF has announced two new Nomad orders, from Air Tasmania and Geosearch Limited. It is also understood that 20 Nomads are to be assembled under licence in an undisclosed country. Hot and high Metro II Swearingen has developed an optional "standby power" installation which will improve the high^altitude, hot-day performance of the Metro II. The 1001b kit comprises a continuous alcohol-and-water injection system for take-off, and a 3501b-thrust rocket to be used if an engine is lost. Power increase per engine is claimed to be between 100 and 170 s.h.p. Graphic Area Navigation (GNAV) is the subject of a presentation at the Royal Aeronautical Society (4 Hamilton Place, London Wl) on September 27. Group Captain Sir Douglas Bader will chair the meeting, which begins at 4 p.m. Speakers will be Hugh Field, Assistant Editor of Flight; Professor Stanley Roscoe of the Aviation Research Laboratory, University of Illinois; Capt Derek Graham; and Gordon Wansbrough-White. The presentation, spon sored by Wansbrough-White & Co and the National Research and Development Council, is aimed mainly at commercial aviation but should also be of interest to private pilots. Pressurised Brazilian The prototype Embraer EMB-121 Xingue was rolled out last month (see picture below). The pressurised six/eight-seater is powered by two Pratt & Whitney PTA6-28s of 680 s.h.p. each. Cruising performance will be 260kt at 30,O00ft, with a range of 1,480 n.m. Cabin pressure differential is 6-llb/sq in. The prototype is scheduled to complete flight tests by June 1977, and there will be two airframes built for ground static-loading and fatigue tests. mfmmm «»>* m&-zs8i&m* -im.
