Aloha Airlines Inc was founded in June 1946 as Trans-Pacific Airlines, began operations in July of that year and changed its name to Aloha in 1958. Scheduled passenger services are operated between Lihue, Honolulu, Hoo- lehua, Kahului, Kona and Hilo. Major stockholder is the chairman. Aloha has a 10% holding in Air Micronesia. QAL no longer exists as a separate entity and its routes have been integrated into the Ansett network. In 1960 Mandated Air lines, Gibbes Sepik Airways and Madang Air Services were also acquired by Ansett and operated as Ansett Airlines of Papua New Guinea until succeeded by Air Niugini in November 1973. In 1963 a controlling interest was acquired in Mac.Robertson Miller Airlines, which is now wholly owned. The Ansett group operates an extensive route network covering all states of Australia. Heli copter services are operated between the Yarra Heliport and Tullamarine, and Sikorsky S-61Ns operate services in the Barrier Reef, North Queensland. American Airlines Inc was founded in 1934 as a direct successor to American Airways, formed in 1930, and other pre decessor companies dating back to 1926. Currently operating a fleet of nearly 250 aircraft, American is one of the world's largest airlines by any yardstick, and in the past has sponsored designs such as Simulators: one Singer-Link 747, four Singer-Link 707, four Singer-Link 727, two Redifon DC-10-10. Ansett Airlines of Australia Ltd, known until late 1968 as Ansett-ANA, was founded as Ansett Airways by R. M. Ansett in 1936, and the airline's first service was opened that year. In 1952 Ansett took over the flying-boat operator Barrier Reef Airways and in 1963 acquired another flying-boat operator, Trans Oceanic Airways. In 1957 Ansett acquired ANA to become Australia's largest privately owned airline. Butler Ansett Airlines of New South Wales Ltd was founded in 1934 as Butler Air Transport to operate intra-state services within New South Wales. Butler was taken over by Ansett Transport Indus tries (along with its subsidiary Queens land Airlines) in 1958 and the present name adopted in December 1959. Ansett Flying Boat Services operations were later integrated with Airlines of New South Wales and the company now operates an extensive network of scheduled services from Sydney to points in New South Wales.
