Output capacity of 40 tons/min is said to be achieved at 20 m.p.h. The Model H-2218 features a snow-clear ing head some 8ft 6in wide X 5ft high. Eighty such vehicles are being sup plied to the US Air Force, which holds options on a further 74 units. What's new SURVIVAL for up to four hours in 0°C water is claimed for a new immersion suit from Beaufort Air-Sea Equipment (Beaufort Road, Birkenhead, Mersey- side; telephone 051-652 9151). The suit will resist temperatures of up to 800°C for three minutes and provides flexibility for both working and escape from cramped conditions, Beaufort claims. The bright orange suit, which packs into a small valise, features 7kg buoyancy. BANTAM, Connecticut-based airline seatmaker UOP Aerospace division has produced a new seat designed for business travellers. The 49in first- class type seat features contoured cushions, built-in lumbar supports and sculptured headrests. Increased leg- room is said to be accomplished by positioning seat legs under armrests and central armrests may be removed for greater lateral space. The division has delivered its 100,000th Model 800 series seat to Republic for its DC-9 fleet. A NEW lavatory service unit suitable for general aviation aircraft is intro duced by Tronair (South 1740 Eber Road, Holland, Ohio; telephone [419] 866-6301). The Model 4036 has 28gal dump and 15gal fill tanks. The former can be drained in less than a minute using high-volume hand pumps. Over all size is 5ft longX212ft wide X 2ft high. PRIMARILY designed for use as air craft protection, a new range of trolley-mounted fire extinguishers is announced by Perren (Murdock Road, Bicester, Oxon; telephone 08692 44411). The three models in the Invader range are identified by their 25kg, 50kg and 70kg capacities. All units are designed to use Bromochlo- rodifluoromethane (BCF) and tropi- calised or high-reaching versions are available. SMITHS Industries subsidiary Con tents Measuring Systems (KLG Works, Putney Vale, London SW15 3DY; telephone 01-452 3333) has developed equipment to measure fuel contents in underground storage tanks to very precise volumes. Claimed advantages over conventional methods include high accuracy, con sistent performance and ease of operation. Abrasive Developments (Norman House, Henley-in-Arden, Solihull, West Midlands; telephone 05642 2231) manufactures Vaqua peening machines for the stress relief of tur bine blades in jet engines. The com pany claims that its system, which uses glass beads in a stream of water, eliminates the health and explosion risks that can occur when titanium particles are used in dry blasting methods. Bristol Industrial & Research Associ ates—BIRAL (PO Box 2, Portishead, Bristol; telephone 0272 847787) offers the helicopter-overload test equip ment developed in West Germany by Erichsen. The rig indicates any lift load to a maximum of 2 tons via a cockpit instrument. Special load cells can be built into lifting mechanisms to meet the requirements of any particular type. CONSTRUCTION now under way at Northrop Ventura division (Newbury Park, California) to increase produc tion space will permit higher build rates for F/A-18A Hornet parts and subassemblies. The new $3,200,000 facility will also cater for F-5 produc tion. High-speed rescue ONLY two hours elapsed from the ditching of a Royal Netherlands Navy Atlantic reconnaissance aircraft to the rescue of'nine crewmembers. All were equipped with Sarbe personnel- locator beacons produced by Burn- dept Electronics (St Fidelis Road, Erith, Kent; telephone 03224 39121). The signals were received first by a USAF C-5 Galaxy and subsequently by a US Navy P-3 Orion. An RAF Nimrod patrolled the ditching site, 180 miles off Scotland, until a RN Sea King picked up the men. Who's selling what IN a major seat-reservation and flight- information system modernisation programme, Nigeria Airways has bought data communications equip ment worth more than £111,000 from Racal-Milgo (Richmond Court, 309 Fleet Road, Fleet, Hants). Mather & Piatt (Park Works, Man chester; telephone 061-205 2321) is to supply fire pumps for use at Kuwait International Airport under a £145,000 deal. A two-year contract to investigate the feasibility of incorporating digital electronic fuel-control on turboshaft engines has been awarded to Lucas Aerospace (Englewood, New Jersey). The programme involves computer simulations of the Bell 222 helicopter and Avco Lycoming's LTS101 engine in conjunction with Lucas SDS300 controls. CONTINUED operation, maintenance and modification of the Altair radar system at Kwajalein Missile Range in the South Pacific is valued at $9,400,000 under a new contract received by GTE (One Stamford Forum, Stamford, Connecticut 06904; telephone [617] 890-9200).
