WORLD AIRLINE DIRECTORY operated throughout Washington and to points in Oregon, Idaho and Montana. Cathay Pacific Airways was founded in 1946 and originally operated several DC-3s on freight and later passenger services on a route network which stretched from Shanghai to Sydney. Since 1948 the airline has been controlled and managed by the Swire Group. Following increases in and reorganisation of share capital between 1970 and 1975, and the purchase in 1980 of a 15 per cent shareholding from British Airways Associated Companies, Cathay Hold ings (which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Swire Group's major public company, Swire Pacific) now holds 71 per cent of the issued capital, and the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation 29 per cent of the capital. Cathay Pacific operates an extensive network of scheduled passenger and cargo services from Hong Kong to Abu Dhabi, Auckland, Bahrain, Bangkok, Bombay, Brisbane, Dhahran, Dubai, Frankfurt, Fukuoka, Jakarta, Kaohsiung, Kota Kina- balu, Kuala Lumpur, London (Gatwick), Manila, Melbourne, Osaka, Penang, Perth, Port Moresby, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney, Taipei, Tokyo, and Vancouver. Cayman Airways was formed in July 1968 to replace Cayman Brae Airways, a subsidiary of the Costa Rican airline LACSA. Privately owned Ceskoslovenska Letecka Spolecnost (CLS) was founded in 1927, and the present CSA was a result of a merger of the two airlines in 1945. Post-war operations began in 1946 and today an extensive network of routes link Prague with most European capitals, the Near, Middle and Far East, North and West Africa, and North and Central America. Chosonminhang (CAAK) is the state airline of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. It was* formed in 1954 to succeed SOKOA, the joint Soviet- North Korean airline established in 1950 to operate*' scheduled services between Pyongyang and Chita in the USSR. Scheduled passenger and cargo services now link Pyongyang with Kaesong, Wonsan, Haijoo, * Sineuijoo, Gangge, Haheung, Hyesan, and Chungjin, together with international route to Beijing, Irkutsk, Khabarovsk, and Moscow. Cimber Air A/S Denmark was formed in 1946 by I. L. Nielsen and began scheduled feeder operations from Sonderborg in 1963. In November 1971 these services were integrated into the network of Danair A/S, the consortium formed in April 1971 by SAS, Maersk Air and Cimber Air. Shareholding in Danair is 5 per cent. Today, Columbia is primarily a heavy-lift operator, but also operates a feet of light- and medium-sized rotary-wing craft. The company is active in helicopter logging, construction, and onshore/offshore oil industry support. Construction activities include transmission tower erection, barge offloading, mining support, roof-top equipment place ment, and pipeline support. Passenger and cargo charters are also undertaken throughout the world. Columbia acquired Alaska Helicopters of Anchorage in 1978. Main base is at Aurora State Airport, Oregon.
