Malaysia's Government has unveiled a 50% reduction in airport landing charges to help airlines during the ongoing economic downturn.
The Government said in its announcement that the reduction will apply to all airlines serving Malaysia and the discount will be offered for two years from 1 April.
Malaysia introduced similar reductions to landing charges during the SARS outbreak in 2003 which badly affected air travel demand.
National airports operator Malaysia Airports already has an incentives programme in place intended to boost traffic through its flagship Kuala Lumpur International Airport. It offers free landing and parking for the first three years for new airlines serving the airport or for existing airlines increasing services.
