Rockwell Collins has unveiled touch-controls for primary flight displays on business jets equipped with Pro Line Fusion avionics.
The announcement at the AirVenture fly-in in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on 24 July adds a new feature to the company's glass cockpit system.
Inputs to the flight management system could be made by the pilot swiping their finger across the screen.
"Instead of entering information on a console-mounted keypad, pilots can redirect to a graphically displayed waypoint or destination with a single swipe of a finger," Colin Mahoney, Rockwell Collins' vice-president of sales and marketing, said.
The new feature will be available on "future applications" of Pro Line Fusion. It was not immediately clear if the touch screen feature could be retro-fitted.
In October 2010, Garmin announced touch screens would be included in the Garmin 5000 cockpit-management system.
