Boeing has named Ihssane Mounir to become the vice-president of sales and marketing for the Commercial Airplanes division, succeeding John Wojick who will retire early next year.

Over the last decade Mounir has led sales campaigns across the globe and most recently as vice-president of sales for Northeast Asia. He previously led sales teams in Europe, Central Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Mounir becomes the 9th global head of sales appointed by Boeing since the merger with McDonnell Douglas in 1997.

Wojick inherited the job in August 2012 from Ray Conner, who rose to become chief executive of the Commercial Airplanes division after a leadership shake-up.

During Wojick’s term, Boeing went on a string of record-busting sales years that peaked in 2014. With a stocked backlog stretching several years, Boeing announced plans earlier this year to sell about 740 commercial aircraft in 2016.

So far, however, the results have been disappointing. The company has accumulated 432 net orders in 2016, leaving Wojick’s team less than three months to pick up more than 300 orders to achieve Boeing’s sales goal.
