Egyptian armed forces are claiming to have located wreckage and other debris from the missing EgyptAir Airbus A320.
The new claim follows a retraction of a previous disclosure that wreckage from the jet had been discovered following the disappearance on 19 May.
Egypt’s armed forces spokesman says the new findings were made on 20 May some 290km north of Alexandria.
This location is consistent with the distance from the Egyptian coast of the last point of contact with flight MS804.
The spokesman says the findings include “private belongings of passengers” in addition to “pieces of wreckage”.
Efforts are being made to sweep the area further and retrieve objects from the sea.
EgyptAir says it has been informed that armed forces found the "wreckage" and "belongings" in the early hours of the morning, 295km off the Alexandria coast.
It states that it will "take all necessary measures" to deal with the situation and conduct a "thorough investigation" to determine the circumstances of the event.
