Touching moment as an era ends

Hong Kong's Kai Tak Airport's northerly approach, which requires a spectacular banking turn around the infamous "chequerboard" in typically tricky crosswinds, was more than a handful for the pilot of a Malaysian Airlines Boeing 747-400 which scraped an outer engine on landing in late June and an Indian Airlines 747. The airport is now poised to close as daily flights are switched to Chek Lap Kok.
