Strategic Technology Systems has signed a deal with GKN Westland Helicopters to provide the health and usage monitoring system (HUMS) for the WAH-64 Apache Longbow attack helicopter.
The contract with the Smiths Industries company is for an initial 68 sets of equipment, with deliveries between 2001 and 2003.
HUMS assesses the health of critical systems such as engines, transmissions, bearings and rotors and analyses the data in real time.
The HUMS system includes the expanded maintenance data recorder (EMDR), incorporating the universal HUMS module and additional sensors.
Doug Crawford, STSI's director of marketing explains: "The solution we are providing to GKN Westland represents the latest version of technology developed for the US Army and UK North Sea operators, proven in over 700,000 flight hours of real world operation."
