On 14 August the US satellite operator PanAmSat’s 2,000kg (4,400lb) Orbital Sciences-built C-band Galaxy 14 telecommunications spacecraft was launched by a Starsem, Arianespace Soyuz-Fregat booster from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. It will provide digital video programming, high-definition television and other services to North America using its 24 C-band transponders. It will operate along with PanAmSat’s Galaxy 12 spacecraft. The satellite was originally to be launched on an Arianespace Ariane 5 from French Guiana.
