Turboprop manufacturer ATR has hit a major milestone, with the delivery of its 1,000th aircraft.

The 72-seat ATR 72-600 was handed over to Spanish airline Air Nostrum on 3 May at a ceremony in Toulouse, France.

The airframer's first aircraft - an ATR 42 - was delivered to French carrier Air Littoral on 3 December 1985.

"Today, ATR planes are present in over 90 countries and are flown by 180 airlines. Few programmes can boast such a global presence," says Filippo Bagnato, chief executive of ATR.
