Tokyo's fire department has ordered a third Eurocopter EC225 helicopter, which will be used for fire fighting as well as search and rescue and emergency medical services.
"Recent experiences in Japan showed the important role played by rotary-wing aircraft during large-scale disasters," said Eurocopter president and chief executive Lutz Bertling in a statement.
Eurocopter added that it has been providing fire fighting helicopters to Japan since 1967, when the Tokyo Fire Department obtained a SA3160 Alouette III.
