Beijing Capital International Airport is to complete resurfacing work on its west runway in July, and also plans to build a cross-field taxiway and renovate Terminal 1. The airport can handled up to 35 million passengers, annually. Australian aviation and airports consultancy Airplan (Airport Planning) is contributing to an Australian Agency for International Development-funded project to implement a further improvement programme for Papua New Guinea's (PNG) airports. Airplan has recently evaluated the condition of pavements at 10 airports in PNG. Continental Airlines and Radiant Energy have begun revenue-sharing operation of a de-icing facility at New York Newark. Dubai International Airport recorded growth of 10.5% last year, with passenger numbers reaching 10.7 million. The Cargo Village grew by 10.9%. Sydney Kingsford-Smith Airport expects international traffic to surge by 13.5% between March and October when the city hosts the 2000 Olympic Games, increasing the airport's share of international traffic to 44% of Australia's total. Belgium's regional Flemish government has approved the construction of a road tunnel adjacent to the threshold of Antwerp Deurne Airport's runway 29. The tunnel will allow the nearby road to pass underground and enable the runway's full 1,510m (5,000ft) length to be used. The first test flight into the new Inchon Airport near Seoul in South Korea was by a government-owned Bombardier Challenger 601 on 28 February. The airport will open next year, replacing Kimpo Airport. A major upgrade programme will begin this month to strengthen the runways at Pekoa and Bauerfield in the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu. A new company - Civil Aviation Corporation - has been contracted by the Vanuatu Government to manage these two airports as well as Vanuatu's other international airport - Whitegrass-Tanna - and the 26 domestic airports on the outer islands.
