Aeroflot is taking delivery of a new Airbus A320 which features a retro livery, based on a former Soviet-era colour scheme.

The aircraft, MSN5614, is being leased from Irish-based lessor AWAS.

It is fitted with CFM International CFM56 powerplants and is the fifth of six A320s which the leasing company is delivering to the Russian flag-carrier during 2013-14.

The livery is intended to mark 90 years since the creation of Dobrolyot, the air transport organisation which was the precursor to Aeroflot.

While resembling the livery of the Tupolev Tu-104 the colour scheme features the Russian flag - rather than the Soviet Union's - on the vertical fin.

The aircraft also carries the name Dobrolyot on its nose.

"This newly delivered aircraft will immediately enter Aeroflot's extensive network," says AWAS, adding that the jet "will contribute to strengthening its young fleet and quality of services offered to passengers".

Aeroflot chief Vitaly Saveliev disclosed towards the end of last year that the livery for the A320 had been selected following a vote.
