Aeromexico is seeking approval to launch flights from Mexico City to Fresno, California on 1 June.
The carrier proposes operating a Boeing 737-700 on a single daily roundtrip flight.
Mexico City-Fresno was previously operated by Mexicana, which ceased operation in August while entering creditor protection. Mexicana has been attempting to secure new investors for a relaunch of operations.
Schedules in the Innovata database show that currently no flights are available from Mexico City to Fresno as the Fresno Yosemite International airport has had no international service available since Mexicana ceased operations.
Both Aeromexico and Mexican low cost carrier Volaris have been backfilling Mexicana's US capacity. Volaris on 14 April plans to inaugurate Guadalajara-Mexico City service, marking Fresno as its sixth US gateway. Currently Volaris offers transborder service to Los Angeles, Oakland, San Jose, Las Vegas and Chicago.
Aeromexico, meanwhile, has requested authority to launch service from Guadalajara to the California cities of Fresno, Sacramento and San Francisco, and is also seeking authority to link Morelia with San Francisco and Monterrey with Chicago.
