Airservices Australia is commissioning a further five automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) ground stations as part of the service provider's programme to implement the technology nationwide above flight level 300 (30,000ft).
New stations at Karratha and Billabong, near Kalbarri, in Western Australia, and one at Alice Springs in the Northern Territory are due to be commissioned for service on 9 July, followed by one at Tennant Creek on 2 August.
Hundreds of aircraft operating in Australia are now fitted with ADS-B avionics, according to Airservices. Some 400 ADS-B approved flights a month transit overhead or land at Broome, Western Australia, and more than 500 at Alice Springs, says Airservices chief executive officer Greg Russell.
Following a number of delays, Airservices now expects to complete its nationwide ADS-B rollout in late 2008.
