The Belgian air force is to replace three HS 748 transports and five Fairchild Merlin III liaison aircraft by a single type. The Fairchild Dornier 328 is thought to be the air force's first choice, but the Fokker 50 and de Havilland DHC-8 are also being evaluated. The Merlin III and HS748 have been in service for some 25 years with 21 Squadron at Melsbroek AB, near Brussels.
