UK parts distributor AJ Walter Aviation has been approved by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) as a spares supplier for UAE carriers.

The company already has an operation in Dubai from where it supports international airlines with inventory for Airbus and Boeing aircraft. The new certification, however, enables the firm to extend its services to customers flying under GCAA rule.

The approval comes after Ras Al Khaimah-based budget carrier RAK Airways selected AJW in September for a three-year power-by-the-hour support contract for its A320 fleet.

For the Dubai-based charter carrier Global Jet, the UK company plans to set up an airside support facility for rotables, consumables and engine management for the airline's A300 and 737-300/400 aircraft.
